Babe’s Chicken Frisco

Real southern cooking in a real southern atmosphere.

Babe's Chicken FriscoWhen you walk into Babe’s, you’re in an outdoor waiting “courtyard”. It’s full of little seats, etc to wait on and looks like you’re in the middle of an old west alley. But when you walk into Babe’s Chicken Frisco, you’ll immediately go “wow”.

Walking in, you see the high, barn roof and the animals on hay on the upper decor floors. Underneath, you see a great atmosphere of dancing waiters dancing to jukebox music coming from a large speaker array. You are seated in a chair which doesn’t match the rest of the chairs at your wooden table. It’s very dark in the barn, too. You tap your foot on the black floor to the beat of country music while admiring (probably faux) cow head taxidermy, purple silhouette lights and the cabin in general.

Your waiter tells you the menu; there are no menus here. You are offered one of six items, the specialty being the fried chicken. You order that.

Babe’s is also well-known for being kid-friendly; it’s a great place for when you have visitors over from New Jersey. In fact, that’s why we went here.

The salad is nice and succulent. The dressing is a vinegar/sugary-like vinaigrette. In my opinion, it’s an average, fresh saad. The buttermilk bread, though, is to die for and ultimately pleasing. It tastes like a buttermilk pancake, but it’s crispy and a biscuit. It’s buttery, soft, and delicious.

The chicken fingers, while I don’t recommend them, are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. There are no “hard parts” and are easy to eat. They have probably the best chicken fingers ever, aside from possibly Chili’s.

The fried chicken, though, is the best fried chicken in Frisco and possibly all of DFW. It’s soft and smooth with crispy and flavorful “skin”, salty but not greasy, and just a little oily. You have to try this. You HAVE to. Unfortunately, unlike everything else here, this is not unlimited. The portion is generous, though.

The mashed potatoes are creamy and smooth. The creamed corn is sweet, juicy, and easy to eat. But together — oh, they make you lightheaded and feel like you’re in heaven. The saltiness of the mashed potatoes plus the creaminess of the corn makes a wonderful side. (Don’t forget the gravy.)

Unfortunately, we were too full to review the dessert, which is not included.

The service here is like a show. Waiters perform magic coloring book tricks in front of your eyes, great for the kids. They have a little prank, “baby rattlers” which I won’t spoil. The waiters are really nice, friendly, and outgoing to everyone. It’s at a normal speed, too.

Babe’s Chicken Frisco is a one-of-a-kind chicken house with great flavors and all-you-can-eat food for a low price. This is the premiere chicken house of Frisco. They’ll probably always be the king of chicken.
